Homemade Granola Bars 4th of July Style!
Homemade granola bars are starting to get as popular as making rice krispie treats! They are almost just as easy and let's face it, a heck of a lot healthier. Even the M&M's in this recipe don't add the amount of sugar that marshmallow does to the rice krispie treat! We made these for a Memorial Day party coming up. Of course they would be perfect for July 4th too! To make this recipe fit any holiday, just change up the color of candy you are using. For example: red & green for Christmas. Here is how to make these yummy treats-
Yields 8
Ingredients
- 3 cups Quick Oats
- 1 cup Puffed Rice Cereal
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup honey
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup Red, White & Blue M&M's or candy of your choice
Instructions
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt oil, brown sugar, and honey together. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat as soon as mixture begins to boil.
Stir in the vanilla and set aside.
In a large bowl, toss together the oats, cereal, salt and cinnamon. Pour the honey mixture over the oat mixture, and stir until coated evenly.
Stir in the M&M's or candy of your choice and press into the cake pan. To make it easier, you can place a piece of parchment paper over the mixture and press down with your hands. The mixture will not stick to your hands this way.
Bake at for about 15 minutes or until edges are golden.
Allow the bars to cool completely then refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting.
