Low Carb Spicy Steak & Cheese #15MinuteSuppers

One of the things I miss the most when I am counting calories and watching what I eat (which happens a few times a year , when I decide I have spoiled myself enough)  is Steak & Cheese !   The peppery steak, warm gooey cheese, sauteed onions & peppers... drool.  Of course the steamed, bread.  But if you are counting calories or watching carbs, the bread is a big no no.  So I created a Low Carb Steak & Cheese using lettuce. When I first heard of lettuce wraps, I said . Um. No.  Lettuce is not bread and there is no replacement for bread.  While this is true, the lettuce provides a cool, crisp crunch that bread can not!  It is a refreshing change from the ordinary, try it and LETTUCE know what you think.

Low Carb Spicy Steak & Cheese #15MinuteSuppers

A Low Carb Alternative to a Steak & Cheese Sub

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes


  • 1 lb shaved steak
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 1 jalapeno, or 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 4 slices of American White Cheese
  • Romaine or Bib Lettuce, one leaf per wrap
  • Olive oil
  • salt & pepper to taste


  1. Add about 1 teaspoon of olive oil to a non stick skillet or WOK over medium high heat
  2. Cut the peppers and onion into slices and add to the pan, saute for about 2 - 3 minutes
  3. Add the shaved steak and stir fry until cooked (about 3 minutes)
  4. Salt & Pepper to taste
  5. Add the cheese one slice at a time , breaking up with your fingers as you add it, mix well , let it fully melt. It quickly becomes a cheese sauce of sorts.
  6. Add a scoop to each piece of lettuce and roll up
  7. Serve immediately.

  1. Oooh! This sounds so yummy! I need to make lettuce wraps more often for myself at home. I love them when I eat them out, but I never do it at home.
