Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp tails peeled and deveined
  • cooking oil of choice
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Before you get started, be sure to gather up all your ingredients. It's important to note that you want plain and unsweetened almond milk. Do not use anything flavored.

Heat the oil of choice in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Optionally, you can use an air fryer; preheat now if using.

Clean and wash shrimp, leaving the tails intact.

In a bowl, mix together the almond flour, egg, almond milk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until combined.

Once the oil is hot, hold the shrimp by the tail and dip into the batter and get a thick coating.

Carefully place the shrimp into the oil, only cooking a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until golden brown on the outsides and opaque in the center.

Repeat dipping and frying for all of the remaining shrimp. Service with your choice of dipping sauce, a fresh salad, or other low carb side. Enjoy!

NOTE - THE FRYING OIL IS NOT LISTED IN THIS NUTRITION LABEL. It is difficult to calculate how much would actually be assumed when frying. For example- frying at a low temperature allows oil to seep into food, ultimately resulting in consuming more oil.

  1. Ok just made these for dinner. I made less shrimp so I basically halved the recipe. They came out really well! Very delicious and crispy. Thank you

    • Hello Donna,
We didn't include the air fryer recipe, because we didn't make them in the air fryer. At the time we didn't have one and were simply stating that they COULD be made in one as we have seen so many do. I never post anything we haven't done ourselves. The recipe would be exactly the same, just the cooking process changes. We were told by many readers that they used their air fryer and that we should add that it's possible in the post. Maybe someone will comment and tell you what they did.
      Thank you!
