Green Living- 20 Popular UpCycle Ideas & Tips

A great way to reduce your carbon footprint and recycle is to upcycle.  To upcycle means to reuse items that you may typically throw away and turn them into something you can use.  The idea is just pure genius.  I find so many amazing ideas online for upcycling that my husband and I have started searching out items from yard sales and "free" on the side of the road in order to make some of these projects.  The amount of trash that can be saved will just blow your mind, almost everything can be repurposed.

This summer I started by reusing items around the house, that I was going to throw away, out in the garden. I made homemade trellises, cages for veggies like tomatoes and bush beans and automatic waterers.  It was so neat to see how many things I could do with something I was just going to throw away.

Once you get into upcycling, you will be like us and looking for reasons to do it !  Below are a few popular projects that can get you started. A lot of them may be things you already have around the house.  Come back and let me know what you create!

  1. great ideas! we've tried to reuse and repurpose since way before it was popular but with blogs and pinterest it's easier to see other ideas things can be reused for

  2. Your dollhouse idea made me think of my barbie house when I was little. I made it from cardboard boxes, 1 for each room. I used fabric scraps to make curtains and my Dad got me linoleum and carpet scrap to line the floors. All of it was up-cycled and it was was awesome!

  3. I've been getting more crafty and trying to make old stuff new again. A few months ago I revamped an old shelf and turned it into a spice rack. I have a bunch of old dressers I want to paint and get new hardware for. It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of paint! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Love the idea of reusing stuff and green living. Going to try some of these. Thank you for sharing.

  5. I really like these easy fun Green living ideas. I like the Trash Can Planters. They are so cute, and I never thought about using these for plants. They do not cost a lot of money. I have to do this.
